Monster #2 -Stacking boxes, Again courtesy of QC

Never Ending Possibilities

After sleeping on the idea of using slots to create a 3D form, the next thing I really wanted to explore was the use of repeated shapes to create a number of different forms.
My brief?? …make a shape that can fulfil this desire

Monster #2 … or maybe several…
Throughout my research, I have been taking pictures of irreplaceable moments or unique opportunities,  through this 3D shape, I really wanted to incorporate this theme into it, and hope to achieve something that can inspire me on this creative module.

Again, with a simple brief, i followed through to create a simple shape- however, by using the repeat of this shape in different tones and sizes, i could now stack and combine them to create endless outcomes all looking different and non duplicatable everytime.
I really like the idea that its now a one off piece- and once destroyed, its destroyed.
Usually with 3D shapes, i only ever focus on the front and back- rarely the whole 360.... but with a shape so intricate and exciting like this- every angle seems to convey a different mood and silhouette.

The same piece but 360' of whole structure
By using different lighting and backgroud effects, only certain shadows and folds can be portrayed- and with elements of this, i can truely see potential in turning this concept into something 'fashionably exciting'.

Comparing this 3D shape to Monster #1, i find this concept more exciting and challenging. The whole process of building and then destroying the shape evokes so many emotion and results that it then create endless possibilities to where this can lead; not only on a 'product level', but also an' emotional level'.

It is hard to destroy something you have spent your heart and time on creating - but i find desconstruction as exciting as construction.

3D Realisation - What is it?

Monster # 1- This is what my first 3D shape is called – well what QC named it anyway.

My 3D shape- simply just card slotted into each other-
no planning, no intention but yet so relevant

As discussed in previous post- the following project I had to accomplish was to create a 3D shape of any sort… my inspiration? Obviously comes from the research field trips we’ve been taking over the past few weeks.
When I started making this 3D shape, I wasn’t thinking too much of what the outcome would be, everything was quite natural and quite simple. During these few weeks I have been focusing on repetition, reflection and distortion, Monster #1 was based on these words too, and what sparked it off was the image of the stacked chairs I found in Topshop. I find quite interesting how something carrying such a simple forms can created such a different shape when slotted into one another.

Inspiration board and what i think the 3D shape resembles

I took the same idea of using slots to create this free standing 3D shape, and by doing slight alteration to each slotting piece, the shape slowly evolved into something that naturally resembles my research images on the wall.

What do you think?

Liberty's exploration

2nd part of field trip 2 was the Liberty's Furniture department.
Focusing on pattern and form was the main priority of this visit for me today, and below are the images taken from this trip.

Similar to the material seen in
last post. Holes have been drilled i
nto the metal sheet to give space for light source to escape.

Metal light shade shaped as a lamp.

Strips of curved wood to form a chair. Tho very simple-
I really like the shadow cased beneath it- almost creating
an illusion of another layer or curved wood.

Glass table with metal circular frame bottom: transparency
is another element which i would like to explore. By simply
adding or subtracting the surface above, different
projections can be created and vice versa.

Vintage Typewriter. As you can see- there are similarities
of the metal bars in this VS the table -left and chair above.

Multiple glass bottle lamp display. I really like
how the light shone through this lamp- as there are
different thickness to each botle, different depth of
colour was projected making each bottle shape more defined than others

Lamp conceled within another. Again, multiple shapes are linked to each other creating a different form. I really like the 'stacking' element of this lamp and how combination of the size and colour of each layer can alter the outcome of the form.

Origami table lamp. I think its so intriguing to see some
i'm familiar with being turned intosomething that
serves a different purpose. I feel the lighting
on this lamp serves a great help to define the crease
of each fold, making theshadow and shaping
even more exciting to look at.

Similar to the metal light bulb and origami lamp- i really
like the quirkyness of this lamp and the reflection off the table makes it even more stimulating to look at. For
me, there is a sense of pleasure and relaxation to
look at.

This is the end of todays trip... but not an end to a new extraodinary discovery
